Organize products into categories

Categories are optional. Build your products first, then use categories only when a larger assortment needs clearer sections for shoppers.

The answer

After your products are built, create a shopper-friendly category, assign the relevant saved products to it, and check the public store. A small store can usually stay as one simple product list.

Build the products before organizing them

You do not need categories to build a product or get a small store live. Start by creating the products you want to sell. Add categories later only if the growing assortment becomes difficult for shoppers to scan as one list.

Categories can help a larger store separate groups such as Students, Staff, Accessories, or Event Collection. Name them for shoppers, not for internal production. “T-shirts” or “Staff apparel” is easier to understand than an internal project code.

Create the category first

  1. Open the correct store.
  2. Choose Categories.
  3. Select + Add.
  4. Enter the name shoppers should see.
  5. Choose Store products, then add the category.

Assign the products, then check the storefront

  1. Return to Products and open a saved product.
  2. Choose Tasks… → Edit categories.
  3. Select the category and save.
  4. Open Storefront and confirm the product appears where a shopper would expect it.

If Edit categories is unavailable, confirm that the product category was created first.
