What "free" actually means
The Starter plan is $0 per month. Your school pays nothing to open the store and nothing while it runs — you pay only when products sell. There are no minimums and no inventory to buy: every item is printed on demand after a supporter orders it and shipped directly to that buyer. A design that never sells never costs anyone anything, which is what makes a spirit wear store workable for a PTO, booster club, or front office with no merch budget.
How the store gets built
You do not build the store alone. Submit a store request, and a real person replies — usually within a business day — and builds the store with you. The build itself takes about one business day. Every design is reviewed by a print professional before launch, and your organization approves everything before the store goes live. Check names, mascots, and spelling carefully at that approval step: what you approve is what prints.
It helps to have three things ready:
- Artwork. Vectorized .ai, .eps, or .pdf files are ideal; a high-resolution .png also works. If your logo only exists as a small or low-quality image, help with vectorizing and design is available (additional fees may apply).
- A product shortlist. The catalog covers apparel, hats, bags, and other merch, and on-demand decoration includes digital printing, embroidery, dye sublimation, UV printing, and engraving — so a printed tee can sit next to an embroidered polo or hat in the same store.
- A pricing decision. Covered below.
Setting prices and getting paid
The platform calculates a base price for each item from the product, decoration method, and print locations. You set the final sales price, and your organization makes 100% of the difference between item cost and sales price. Some schools price near cost so gear stays affordable for every family; others add a margin to support programs. Either works, and it is a setup decision you make with real numbers in front of you, not a long-term commitment.
Store profits are sent each quarter or at the end of a fundraising campaign — distributions are also made on request — by check or ACH direct deposit.
What happens after launch
Your store can run for a few weeks around a single push or stay open continuously; stores stay open year-round, and your organization decides. Supporters shop on their own schedule, and each order ships to the individual buyer, so no one on your committee has to collect money or sort sizes by hand.
On timing: across organizations of all types on Print Your Cause — schools, nonprofits, teams, and community groups, not schools alone — the median time from account creation to first sale was 28 days. A quarter of selling organizations recorded their first sale within 9 days, 53% within 30 days, and three-quarters within 77 days (Print Your Cause order data, Jan 2024-Jul 2026). A store requested early in the school year has room to start selling within that same season.
